This beautiful tree up and died back to within 3 inches of the soil line. I don’t know why, but just in case I replaced it with a completely different tree, a Tricolor birch.
I love the deep red/purple color leaves of this tree. We bought this to serve as another screen at the edge of our yard, and chose it due to the vertical growth which I found is hard to come by in Japanese Maples. Looking forward to see how it grows!
Hi! I'm Lorie and I wrangle plants in a muddy, feral shade garden in the Pacific Northwest. I built this site to serve as a gardening journal and quasi-accurate record of planting successes and failures. My goal is to help "future me" be a better gardener. I hope what I've learned along the way can be useful to you too. Thanks for visiting!
