Here are the very beginnings of a resource list I hope to expand on over time. I don't receive any compensation from companies on this list, I just like them enough that I think they deserve mentioning!

Local Retail Nurseries
This is skewed toward the nurseries I visit in the north end of the Seattle Area, but I'll expand it over time!
Savage Plants & Landscape
Kingston, WA
I love this nursery! It's not far from our house as the crow flies but unfortunately there's a ferry ride involved. If that weren't the case this would be my go-to plant source. Savage is a bit smaller than the mainland nurseries I frequent which makes for a less daunting browsing session. And they make up for their smaller size by having a better selection of unusual plants. We've picked up some great hard-to-find shade plants on our way back from trips to Bainbridge or the Olympic Peninsula. If it's open when we pass by, it's pretty much a given that we will stop and have a look around.

Dancing Oaks

Ordered well-packaged hardy geraniums and carex in 2021. Plus they have a whole web page dedicated to the nursery cats and dogs!
Supplies
Gardener's Supply Company
I've purchased a few items from this Vermont-based company. They not only have a great selection but seem to have a great company culture and commitment to giving back to the community.
Tecni.uk
I found some great looking trellis cables on this UK-based company's site after not much luck stateside. My order arrived quickly and the system was super easy to assemble. I highly recommend their Mini Pro cable system if you are looking for something a little nicer than typical hardware store offerings.
YouTube
HortTube
I love that this horticulturist and former nursery owner, unlike many other garden channels, both shows plants and posts their common and botanical names. And he's chill! (the irrational exuberance of many YouTubers wears me out). As of this writing he posts several videos a week plus, and you can peruse his large library of propagation/division/transplanting and general gardening know-how videos. Based in North Carolina in zone 7B.
Garden Style NW
Garden Style NW is the YouTube channel for local nursery owner Debbie (Sunnycrest near Port Orchard). Each episode she introduces a few plant varieties and talks about their uses and care. I find this more informative than simply looking at photos online, and everything she shows is curated for our local climate.
eGardenGo
Design tips and garden tours from Portland-based landscape designer Darcy Daniels.
Other Resources
Great Plant Picks
I check nearly every plant I research against this list. Their data is categorized on the Plant List page, which is super helpful for checking out which shade plants they recommend.
Dave's Garden Plant Files
A large repository of information about all kinds of plants.
Hostas Direct
Most of my hostas came from this company. I made a big order in 2011 and have been pretty happy with the results. I really like that you can filter their hosta selection by slug and sun resistance. They have other great shade plants too, along with a few sun selections.
