Verdoni Dwarf Hinoki Cypress

Chamaecyparis obtusa 'Verdoni'
[kam-ah-SIP-ar-iss ob-TOO-sah]

The Verdoni Dwarf Hinoki Cypress is a small coniferous shrub perfect for a narrow border or in containers. The gold-tinged, flat sprays of needles create a sculptural quality that provides a nice contrast and pop of brightness to mixed plantings. I placed one in each of the large planters flanking the lower step of our front entryway. I’m just now considering a light prune to limit height, 4 years after planting them. They seem to tolerate part shade quite well, though I must remember to turn them now and then so that all sides of the plant get a roughly equal dose of sunshine.
