Ryusen Weeping Japanese Maple

Acer palmatum 'Ryusen'

In 2020/2021 I had been searching  short or weeping non-laceleaf maple to put in a pot by the front sidewalk for maybe a year. Right after John bought me a different variety and I dutifully potted it up, I found this Ryusen which had been on my shortlist – so of course I bought it even though I already had one for said pot. After letting it sit in its nursery pot for months, I finally decided to plant it in the driveway circle rockery, a prominent location where I can admire its weeping habit as it drapes over the stones.

Although the nursery tag cites a 20′ height, I seriously have my doubts. If that’s actually true it will need a new home soon!

    About Me

Hi! I'm Lorie and I wrangle plants in a muddy, feral shade garden in the Pacific Northwest. I built this site to serve as a gardening journal and quasi-accurate record of planting successes and failures. My goal is to help "future me" be a better gardener. I hope what I've learned along the way can be useful to you too. Thanks for visiting!
