Rubber Plant ‘Burgundy’

Ficus elastica decora Cvs.

I’d never been keen on rubber plants until I crossed paths with this beautiful ‘Burgundy’ variety. It’s just different enough to cast off the ‘office plant’ vibe I get from your typical rubber plant. The leaf green is slightly bluish, and new growth and stems have complimentary red tones – paired with its powder blue pot, it creates a bold foil to the smaller houseplants next to it on the window sill.

Best grown in bright, filtered light. Let top 2" of soil dry slightly between waterings. Feed May-Sept with a balanced half-strength fertilizer.

Doing well in our west-facing family room window. Pest free. Slightly open habit suggests it needs more light.

    About Me

Hi! I'm Lorie and I wrangle plants in a muddy, feral shade garden in the Pacific Northwest. I built this site to serve as a gardening journal and quasi-accurate record of planting successes and failures. My goal is to help "future me" be a better gardener. I hope what I've learned along the way can be useful to you too. Thanks for visiting!
