Shade Grade: A
Does well in the right spot. Needs open shade. Quite beautiful when it flourishes.
Japanese Forest Grass ‘Allgold’
I have another variety of this plant in a couple other spots in the garden. I’ve had some false starts where I planted Japanese Meadow Grass in too dry, too shady of a spot, then had to move them or lose them. They take a couple years to reach their full potential, but are quite beautiful when they do. Wasn’t sure where to drop this new guy, so I stuck him in the middle of the giant dead stump next to the creek, amid some succulent transplants and sweet alyssum.
UPDATE 2021: Not sure what happened to the stump specimen, but it’s no longer there. Instead I have a beautiful row growing along the back of the garage retaining wall. However that may be a mix of ‘Allgold’ and ‘Golden Variegated’.
Nursery Tag
Beautiful variation of an enduring classic. 15"h x 24"w. PM shade, decent soil & moisture is best.
