Low Oregon Grape

AKA: Longleaf Mahonia, Cascades Mahonia, Cascade Oregon Grape

Mahonia nervosa

I took on a personal ‘ivy-out’ project this year which has turned out to be more of a back-breaker than I had anticipated. But today I made a small win by digging out enough Ivy roots at the street to comfortably plant 3 low growing mahonia in its place. There are layers of broken asphalt underneath a couple of them so we’ll see how they do. If they are as vigorous as the tall Oregon grape across the driveway, they’ll have no problem at all.

    About Me

Hi! I'm Lorie and I wrangle plants in a muddy, feral shade garden in the Pacific Northwest. I built this site to serve as a gardening journal and quasi-accurate record of planting successes and failures. My goal is to help "future me" be a better gardener. I hope what I've learned along the way can be useful to you too. Thanks for visiting!
