Every year in about February I get the gardening bug. And every year at that time I pull out the increasingly fat binder that I keep all my plant tags in and think “there’s got to be a better way”.

I do WordPress development by day and am always looking for personal projects to up my game, so I figured why not create a searchable database of all the plants I’ve collected over the years? And maybe a blog would be nice to have too, to record all the weird bugs and artifacts I find while digging in the dirt. I’m hoping this becomes an “evergreen” project (ha) that I’ll continue to fine-tune and add functionality to.

And finally, maybe this would be something other people would enjoy, so why not put it out there? The combination of shade we have on our lot plus the unique climate in Western Washington means there isn’t a ton of information out there that matches the information I’m searching for. If I find this useful, there might be one or two other folks that do too.
