I’ve seen many of these shrubs while hiking in all parts of the Cascades and Olympic Penninsula, so I figured it would perform well in the harsh dry and sunny(ish) spot underneath the massive Doug fir next to our ‘creek’. It may outgrow its spot and is known to sucker spread, but so far seems to be well behaved. Garden design-wise I give it a ‘meh’ – I think it might be more visually pleasing planted en masse in a large area, rather than the 1 specimen we have.

UPDATE: It outgrew its spot, or had intentions to, I should say. In spring 2020 I found several underground shoots several feet from the main plant so decided it would be better off among the other native plants (Salal and Solomon Seal) at the south easement.
