Interesting variant on the 'normal' hardy impatiens, whose dark, leather leaves I like a bit better than these. Very hardy shade dweller that creates a nice textured patch, not overly vigorous.
Hardy Impatiens ‘Silver and Pink’
I love the ‘normal’ version of hardy impatiens I planted a few years ago along the north side yard, so I was excited to find tubers of this ‘Silver and Pink’ variety at the Northwest Flower and Garden Festival in 2018.
A year later I’m watching them pop out of the ground just beyond where I planted them, so the patch is spreading quite nicely – I look forward to them eventually filling the mulched void beneath our deck stairs.
Update 2020
Now that we have sun pouring into this spot I decided these have to go – the afternoon sun causes them to wilt terrible and the just look like hell from 3-pm until sunset. I’ve never loved these quite as much as the other impatiens so i’m not going to move them anywhere. I dug up as many roots as I could and am hoping to have our hardy white begonias fill in that space. I’m sure I missed some roots and will be pulling a few survivors over the next couple of seasons.
